First, I would like to say what a pleasure it is to introduce myself to you all.
I am Eddie Bohanan, District 3 Councilman for the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, proudly representing the communities of Talihina, Smithville, Heavener, and the surrounding areas of LeFlore County.
My work reflects a balance of cultural pride, community development, and collaboration with local governments and Tribal programs. Before running for Tribal Council, I served as an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper for 28 years. It is an honor and a privilege to continue serving the people of District 3 in this role.
My goal is to keep you informed each month by sharing upcoming community events, celebrating Choctaw traditions, and highlighting the people and programs that make District 3 such a special place.

I would also like to congratulate five outstanding young students from District 3 who have been awarded Chahta Foundation Scholarships. Their hard work and dedication have earned them this well-deserved recognition, and I wish them the very best as they begin the next chapter of their educational journeys. Julie Cooke, graduate of Heavener High School, will attend Oklahoma Baptist University to pursue a degree in Global Marketplace Engagement with an emphasis in Secondary Education. Sarah James, graduate of Talihina High School, will attend Seminole State College to pursue a degree in Kinesiology. Camara Johnson, graduate of Talihina High School, will attend Carl Albert State College to pursue Allied Health/Physical Therapist Assistant studies. Charlotte Southerland, graduate of Talihina High School, will attend Carl Albert State College to pursue a degree in Medical Assisting and Coding. Callysa Thompson, graduate of Talihina High School, will attend Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in Zoology.
The Chahta Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity that provides more than 40 competitive scholarships to Choctaw students each year. These scholarships are funded through the generosity of donors who invest in the future of our students and communities. I am incredibly proud of each of these students and look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the years ahead. They represent the bright future of the Choctaw Nation, and I know they will make us all proud.
