Iris Austin Weatherford, 91, of Broken Arrow (formerly of Poteau) died July 16, 2026 in Broken Arrow and was born June 13, 1935 in Poteau to Doc and Allie Austin. The family moved to Howe in 1937. Iris graduated from Howe High School and moved back to Poteau in 1957, where she lived until 2010.
She was retired from State of Oklahoma DHS in Poteau after 30 years. She was an active volunteer at Baptist Village in Broken Arrow.
Survivors are one daughter, Joni Humphries and husband, Brad of Coweta; one son, Dr. John Stewart and wife, Katheryn of Grove; three grandchildren, Dr. Carly Stewart, Katey and Caroline, one niece, Suzanne Myers, of Tahlequah; nephew Stan Skinner and family of Minneapolis, Minnesota and many friends in Broken Arrow Baptist Village and in the Poteau/Howe area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, brother, her children’s father, J.B. Stewart and her late husband, Earl Weatherford.
