Bold predictions for Week 1 football games

By CRAIG HALL

We are back. I would finish off that sentence with a dirty word, but this is a family publication and I try to not say or write words that would offend my peeps.

After sitting out the football predictions last season because laziness apparently ruled, we are back to pick the 2025 football games involving LeFlore County teams.

I also must admit that I failed to pick the Week 0 games last week because Week 0 games should be thrown in the trash can being as that it is a communist plot to destroy high school football, plus my aged brain forgot to do so.

So there. Those disappointed can get their money back. But just to set the record straight, here are my picks from last week’s games: Poteau 28, Booneville 0; Pocola 42, Antlers 7; Talihina 67, Summit Christian 7; and Bluejacket 46, Arkoma 18. Geez, you are probably thinking, that Craig guy is pretty good at predicting football games and scores when they have already been played. Yes, it’s true, I admit, plus I tend to do decent even when the games have not been played. More on that later.

Our Week 1 games get an early start this week, so I almost got behind again, but I put on my big boy drawers and also got up way too early this morning, thus, giving me time to entertain both people who will read this drivel.

Okay, here we go: It’s pick time. (Editor’s note): These picks, while obviously quite professional, should not be used as the basis of your betting on any LeFlore County football team at Las Vegas or any LeFlore County establishment that takes wagers, although I hear that is probably against the law.

Our first game has Panama visiting Spiro on Thursday night. I would really like to cover this game and lend my expertise to the coverage, but I will also be at Heavener’s game Friday and two nights in a row is too much. Sorry, it’s true. I am at the legal retirement age, so cut me a little bit of slack. You don’t get quality predictions like this in the other LeFlore County publications like the Poteau (not really) Daily News, eh?

Okay, I know the throng wants to know just how in the heck I feel about this battle between northern LeFlore County gladiators. Well, I have seen Spiro and the Bulldogs seem to be better, but it’s really hard to tell from one scrimmage, especially the first one. I have not seen Panama, just done some deep research in talking to Panama Coach Chris Ford up in the stands before Heavener scrimmaged at Spiro for approximately five minutes.. That, of course, provides me a unique insight into the game, even though we aren’t the Paper With The Pictures like the publication my friend John Clark puts out at the Spiro Graphic.

I am getting to it, patience is a virtue. Last year Panama kicked the Bulldogs, 40-21. Key words are last year. This is a new year and all the teams are 0-0, unless they played in the dreaded Week 0 games, which again, I know helps with scheduling, but should be outlawed due to the heat and sweat factor. Like I mentioned earlier, Panama won fairly easy last year, which means absolutely nothing, but I keep referencing it. Spiro has the hole field advantage, but the drive is a short one from Panama and I figure there will be a good Razorback crowd in the stands to offset any home field advantage.

Panama 31, Spiro 17.
