It was no secret Charleston has one of the top offenses in Arkansas, especially among the small scores. The Tigers are now averaging 50 points per game and are now 3-0.
The Tigers showed that explosive play on their first offensive play of the game, scoring on a long touchdown pass. Charleston’s offense continued to roll, scoring on every possession until Heavener stopped the Tigers’ reserves twice late in the game, forcing a pair of punts.
Heavener actually trimmed Charleston’s deficit to 28-14 with 4:45 left in the second quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Brayden Semore and a two-point PAT from Semore to Julian Sanchez, who made a diving catch in the end zone for the score.
The Tigers responded with two more scores before halftime to build the margin to 42-14 at the halftime break.
Heavener, now 0-3, struggled to stop Charleston’s offense, but Heavener moved the ball well at times, despite missing running back Spencer Clubb and lineman Chet Hurst, who both missed the game due to injuries.
The Wolves’ first score came when Heavener was down 14-0 on a familiar routine. Semore hit Saul Silva, who jumped up over a Charleston defender to grab the pass, broke free and outran the Tigers into the end zone for a 73-yard scoring play. Semore and Silva have not hooked up for long touchdown passes in every game.
