Funeral service for Jewell Dean Bernard

Funeral services for Jewell Dean Bernard, 91, of Pocola are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Morial Park in Fort Smith, Arkansas, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro.

Jewell was born April 30, 1934, in Calvin to Loy Velma (Pangle) Montgomery and Luther Allen Montgomery. She passed away Nov. 13, 2025 in Pocola.

Jewell was an avid quilter who lovingly made quilts for every member of her family, as well as for friends and neighbors. She was also a spirited gardener who took great pride in her flowers and plants. A faithful member of Oak Lodge Church, Jewell lived her life with a joyful heart. She was known for her warm smile and was affectionately remembered by many as a truly sweet lady.

Survivors are her daughter Judy Slack and husband Gene; son Jimmy Brown and wife Sheila; stepdaughters Sandra Edwards and husband Walter, and Linda Bernard; stepson Robin Bernard and wife Suzi; daughter-in-law, Wanda Brown; stepson-in-law, Bob Wilbur; sister, Thola Owen; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and loved ones.

She was married to her beloved husband, Ray Bernard, who preceded her in death. Jewell was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jonathan Brown; stepson, Ted Bernard; brothers Edward Montgomery, Earnest Montgomery, and James Montgomery; and sisters, Edna Myers, Allie Luckey, Norma Jean Benzel, Betty Lou Harris and Ruth Gibbs.

Pallbearers are Shawn Brown, Mark Brown, Ethan Brown, Dalton Brown, Cole Brown, and Garret Brown. Honorary pallbearers are Lonnie Harris and Tommy Moses.

Viewing and visitation are Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 2  to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
