Goodbye class of 2025
By CRAIG HALL
This is it. The last day of school for the 2024-2025 school year, giving me a little more time to do other things.
I have been looking forward to this day, but it will also be a sad one as our seniors will walk the halls of Heavener High School as a student for the last time, the same way I thought I had done way back in 1981.
I used to fear for the future. But that has changed since I got to know these kids better. I think our future is bright with these kids, who are our future leaders. We have many bright and ambitious students at Heavener, along with all the county schools.
There will be obstacles, of course, that is life, but there is also opportunities that we didn’t have back in the ancient days.
Our final glimpse of those students will be sometime around noon when they do a walk-through of the various buildings. I have seen these kids grow while they succeed or come up short, but mainly become better young men and women.
I know they will do well. My granddaughter has just finished sixth grade and she is better at tech stuff than I am with some exceptions.
The end of the school year had me so excited my first song on Alexa this morning was “This is it” by the late and great Kenny Loggins. The school part is over, but I still have some yearbook work to put in, but that should be wrapped up within the next week or so as I have some great help.
I have had my eighth graders sign a poster on the wall yesterday as they will not be in class today because of a field trip and the other students will do it just so I can look at it and remember them in the years to come.
I could technically retire as I turned 62, a few months ago, but I am going to try to work until I am 65 so I can get Medicare and maybe even 67 if I can avoid any more medical problems. The stroke I suffered a few years ago slowed me down, but I still get up and this little newsletter and website are still the things that get me out of bed each day on the days when I don’t have school.
If you see any of these graduates whether they are seniors, eighth graders or kindergarten, congratulate them. What they have done is not easy and they should be proud. When the class of 2025 leaves, Heavener High School will be a better place.
