Heavener girls win consolation championship

Heavener girls scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning Saturday to defeat Holdenville and capture the consolation championship of the Wilson (Henryetta) Softball Tournament.

The Lady Wolves held a 2-0 lead after three innings before Holdenville responded with three runs to take the lead in the top half of the inning.

Heavener scored the tying and winning run with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Olivia Smith led off the inning with a single and was replaced by pinch runner Annie Eggar. Ember Stacy reached on a bunt to bring up Maggie Barnes, who was batting for Kambrie Oliver. Barnes also bunted and reached on an error by the first baseman as Eggar tied the score and Stacy advanced to third base.

After a pair of outs, Kristy Shadwick singled to left field, bringing in Stacy with the winning run.

Stacy, a freshman, led he Lady Wolves at the plate, going 2-2 with the winning run scored.

Shadwick went the distance to get the win. She allowed only one hit and three unearned runs with three walks and six strikeouts.
