Howe falls short against Oktaha, 2-1, in the Class 2A state fast pitch softball championship game.

The Lady Lions had already defeated top-ranked Dale and third-ranked Preston in the tournament, but an early lead dissipated as Oktaha, which defeated Pocola, 1-0, in 16 innings in a quarterfinal game, scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning and this time, Howe could not answer.

Howe had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as B. Scarberry singled with two outs before K. Mundy singled to right and Scarberry scored on the throw for an early 1-0 lead which held up until Oktaha scored the two runs in the top of the sixth.

Slatey Free was 2-3 to lead Howe at the plate while Mundy had the one RBI and B. Scarberry the only run.

Kadence Delt went the distance for Howe, allowing only four hits and two runs, both earned, with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Howe ends with a 22-10 record. Oktaha closes at 34-4.
