Hugh “Yogi” Taylor obituary

Hugh “Yogi” Taylor, 84, of Heavener passed away peacefully on Aug. 15, 2025. He was born to Zella (West) and Elmer Taylor and was a graduate of Heavener High School.

Funeral service is 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with Johnny Harris and Tommy Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Heavener Memorial Park, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.

Yogi was a beloved fixture in his community, known for his warm heart and welcoming spirit. True to his reputation of never meeting a stranger, he touched countless lives with his genuine kindness and friendship. His passion for railroads and trains was well-known.  Yogi also had a deep love for automobiles – he enjoyed driving, fixing, and collecting cars.  He could often be found sharing stories and knowledge about cars and trains with anyone who would listen.

Yogi’s greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his daughters, Katina Dimitro and her husband Albert and Destini Bynum. He was a devoted grandfather to Evan Dimitro, and Valerie Bynum, Connor Bynum, and Addelyn Bynum.

Throughout his life, Yogi exemplified the values of community, friendship, and family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the love he shared with all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the entire Heavener community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Zella and Elmer Taylor.

Pallbearers are his family.

Viewing is from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday with at the funeral home.
