Kiefer defeats Heavener

Kiefer defeats Heavener boys in a Class 3A basketball winners bracket regional game Thursday night, 71-51, at Checotah.

Kiefer advances to the regional finals against Roland Saturday night. The Wolves face Valliant in an elimination game 2:30 p.m. Friday, also at Checotah.

Spiro’s girls were also defeated in a winners bracket game against Kiefer, 59-38. The Lady Bulldogs play Hugo at 1 p.m. Spiro’s boys stayed alive with a 55-50 victory over Checotah and plays Hugo at 7:30 p.m.

Heavener’s girls had a bye Thursday and plays Valliant at 6 p.m. Friday in an elimination game.

Heavener’s boys are 12-15 overall while the Trojans improve to 20-5.

Kiefer took a commanding lead in the first quarter and aside from a run by the Wolves in the third quarter, controlled the contest in getting the 71-51 win.

Heavener trailed 21-10 at the end of the first quarter and 48-26 at the half against the 13th-ranked Trojans.

Brandon Sanchez finished with 13 points to lead Heavener.
