Panama and Pocola suffered their first losses of the season while Heavener is still looking for its first win after a 56-14 loss to Charleston, Arkansas, one of the top teams in its class in the state, and Spiro’s struggles continued in a blowout loss to Muldrow.
In the biggest matchup of the week, Pocola visited Vian in a game involving one of the top teams in A-1 in the Indians and 2A-2 in the Wolverines.
Pocola jumped ahead early, 6-0, before Vian roared back to have a 21-12 lead that the Wolverines maintained until the fourth quarter.
Vian went on a run to up the advantage to 34-12 before Pocola cut the deficit to 34-20 which Vian countered for the final margin. The Indians visit Warner next week to open district play.
In a matchup of undefeated teams, Wilburton edged Panama, 21-14. The Diggers are 3-0 entering district play next week while the 2-1 Razorbacks open district play at Chouteau.
Panama, which had scored over 40 points in wins over Spiro and Heavener, fell behind early and the Diggers grabbed a 21-8 advantage in the fourth quarter before the Razorbacks scored their final points.
Arkoma, the only team which won’t start district play next week, evened its record at 2-2 with the 46-0 blowout win over Bowlegs. Arkoma visits Quinton on Thursday.
Heavener, 0-3, opens district play at home next week against Hugo, which was 1-2 in district play, and is coming off its first win over the year, a 20-14 victory over Dickson. This is the first time Hugo will visit Heavener in several years after the Wolves visited the Buffloes the last two years.
Spiro, which has been blown out by two Class A teams, moved up a couple of classes to take on 3A Muldrow, but the outcome still favored the opponents as Muldrow stayed undefeated while winless Spiro opens district play with a tougher tough opponent as the Bulldogs travel to Vian.
