Probably the most competitive game for Week 2 has the Wolves hooking up with the Razorbacks for the 65th time in a series Heavener leads 40-21 with one tie, although Panama has won six of the last seven games with the Wolves winning last year’s matchup, 24-13, in Heavener.
The Wolves are 0-1 after last week’s disappointing 27-24 loss to Central in two overtimes that Heavener had several chances to win, including a field goal in the first overtime after Central threw an overtime to open the overtime so the field goal would have won the game for Heavener, but it was blocked.
Heavener had a good night offensively, scoring on the Wolves’ opening drive of the game and their first possession in the second half as the passing game is improved over last season.
Panama had no problems last week, winning 44-30 in a game that ended early due to an injury to a Spiro player.
Pocola (1-0) had a bye last week after opening the season with an easy 42-7 win at Antlers. Spiro suffered the loss at home to Panama and is 0-1.
Poteau tries to complete its undefeated slate of non-district when the 2-0 Pirates visit 1-1 NOAH, which lost its opener to Rejoice Christian before bouncing back to defeat Miami last week. Poteau has gotten off to an excellent start under the new head Jake Hayes with a win over Booneville, Arkansas to open the season before winning at Class 5A McAlester last week, 21-14, in a game that was not as close as the final score indicates.
Poteau has a bye next week before opening district play in two weeks at home against Stilwell.
After losing its opening two games at home, Arkoma hopes to win its first game after Jack Armstrong returned as the Mustangs’ head coach at Graham-Dustin. The Mustangs lost to Bluejacket and Canadian while Graham-Dustin is 0-2, losing to South Coffeyville, 20-6, in the opener before falling to Life Christian, 50-0 last week.
