Funeral services celebrating her life are 11 a.m. Monday at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Spiro with Reverend Bryan Fouts officiating. Mary will be laid to rest at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.

Born July 15, 1933, in Spiro, Mary was the cherished daughter of Nancy (Holt) Lord and Edmond Lord. She grew up surrounded by love and the values that would carry her through a life marked by compassion, service, and devotion to her family and faith.

Mary was united in marriage to the love of her life, James “Dub” Mathis, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, music, laughter, and love — one that reflected their shared commitment to faith and family.

Mary had many gifts and passions. She found joy in music — singing and playing the piano and guitar filled her home with harmony and peace. She was a gifted seamstress and an extraordinary cook, always ready to prepare a warm meal for her family or bring a dish to a church gathering. Her heart delighted in the stories of her ancestors, and she spent countless hours researching genealogy and preserving family memories through photographs and albums.

Nothing made her happier than family get-togethers, surrounded by children, grandchildren and the sound of laughter. She lovingly cared for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her nurturing spirit was felt by all who knew her. Mary’s Bible was never far from her side — she found strength and peace in the Word of God, whom she loved above all else.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith through her children daughters Omega Mathis of Tulsa and Wenonah Sweet of Wister; sons James Mathis, Jr. and wife Pam of Spiro, and Douglas Mathis of Howe; five grandchildren Erich Sweet, Kimberly Rudolph, Jamie Johnson, Aaron Mathis and Megan Woolbright; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many beloved relatives; and dear friends.

Pallbearers are Carl West, Paul West, Noah Sweet, Alan Johnson, Newt Johnson, and John Rudolph. Honorary pallbearers are Jared Cruse, Wayne West, Aaron Mathis and Jasper Johnson.
