A memorial service to celebrate their lives is 11 a.m. on Aug. 30, 2025 at the Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro, with interment of their cremains at New Hope Cemetery. A second celebration of life service is 11 a.m. on Oct. 18, 2025 at the St. Regis Cemetery, St. Regis, Montana, where their cremains will be laid to rest, honoring both their roots and their early years together. They will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved them.

Carl was born in Spiro on Sept. 23, 1941 to James William “Jack” and Mildred Chapple. Julie was born on Jan. 5, 1945, in Bisbee, Arizona to John Patrick and Sarah Frances Foley (Carlisle). The lure of work brought Carl to St. Regis, Montana, where he first met Julie while she was working at a local diner. Their friendship quickly grew into something more, and they were married Aug. 3, 1963 in St. Regis, beginning a long and loving journey together.

After starting their family, Carl and Julie moved back to Spiro where Carl began what would become a 35-year career in highline construction with Oklahoma Gas & Electric. He retired in 2006 and remained proud of the friendships and accomplishments made during his years there, often still wearing his OG&E clothing—including the red jacket he received in recognition of his safety record.

Carl had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and gardening. He always had a story to tell—especially about the big catfish he caught with his trotline on the Arkansas River—and rarely missed an opportunity to spend time on the golf course with friends and family.

Julie dedicated her working years to caring for others. She held positions in hospital food service, church daycare, and later customer service with Oklahoma Rig & Supply, where she worked for more than 18 years and formed close and lasting friendships. Julie loved to travel—especially on road trips where she could enjoy the scenery—and was happiest when cooking for friends and family. She also collected cookbooks and loved discovering new recipes.

Carl and Julie’s greatest joy was their family. They are survived by their son, William Chapple, of Spiro; daughter Teresa Compton and husband Wade of Norman; and their cherished grandchildren Brody Compton of Dallas, Texas, Zane Compton of Norman, and Cara Compton of Norman.

They were lovingly known as “Papa” and “Nana,” and their grandchildren will always remember the many adventures shared with them—traveling, golfing, cooking, and finding out-of-the-way places to explore. Nana and Papa created a safe, happy place for them, filled with laughter, unconditional love, and treasured memories.

Carl is also survived by his brother, Don Chapple of Claremore; and sister-in-law, Nita Chapple of Missoula, Montana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Melford Chapple, William Raymond “Billy Ray” Chapple, and Mary Ruth Jones. Julie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Frances Welch, Mary Peterson, Joann Villado, and John Foley (and his wife Gloria).

Even as dementia affected their later years, Carl and Julie’s kindness, sense of humor, and resilient spirit never faded. After 63 years of devoted marriage, they are now at peace together.
