Oglesby leads ORU past Kansas City

Tulsa – Led by Jalei Oglesby’s 21-point performance, the Oral Roberts women’s basketball team defeated Kansas City 81-65 on Thursday evening. With the win, the Golden Eagles improved to 10-8 overall and 3-2 in Summit League play.

Following Howe’s Oglesby, two Golden Eagles reached double-figure scoring, as Anna Trusty finished with 18 points and Kayten Donley added 13. Oral Roberts totaled 14 assists in the contest, led by Donley’s six.

Trusty led the team with seven rebounds, closely followed by A’Maya Holton with six. ORU forced 19 Kansas City turnovers, converting those takeaways into 17 points on the other end. Trusty’s three steals led the way for Oral Roberts.

After falling behind 8-7, Oral Roberts went on a 10-0 run with 5:54 left in the first quarter, capped by a three-pointer from Donley, to take a 17-8 lead. The Roos cut into the deficit, but ORU still entered the quarter break with an 18-15 advantage.

Kansas City rallied to take a 29-27 lead before Oral Roberts answered with a 5-0 run beginning at the 3:33 mark in the second quarter, highlighted by a three from Hannah Coons, to regain the lead at 32-29. The Roos trimmed the margin, but the Golden Eagles carried a 32-31 advantage into halftime. Oral Roberts was strong from deep in the period, knocking down two three-pointers to account for six of its 14 second-quarter points.

Oral Roberts continued to expand its advantage in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 41-39 before going on a 9-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Oglesby, to extend the margin to 50-39 with 4:18 remaining in the period. The Golden Eagles added two more points before the end of the quarter and entered the fourth with a 58-45 edge. ORU played well inside, scoring 16 of its 26 points in the paint during the frame.

The Golden Eagles kept control in the fourth before a 5-0 run pushed the lead to 63-47 with 8:37 remaining. ORU maintained the advantage the rest of the way to secure the 81-65 victory, scoring 14 of its 23 fourth-quarter points in the paint.
