Oklahoma surprises Tennessee in SEC play

Oklahoma surprises Tennesse, 33-27, in a road football win over the Volunteers Saturday, largely thanks to a dominant defensive effort and quarterback John Mateer’s late-game heroics. Mateer threw for 159 yards, ran for 80, and scored the clinching one-yard touchdown with less than two minutes remaining.

The Sooners (7-2, 3-2 SEC) capitalized on three Volunteers turnovers to score 13 points, including a 71-yard fumble return touchdown by R Thomas Mason and two field goals from Tate Sandell (part of his four FGs, including two from 55 yards).
