October will be busy with live music with Poteau BalloonFest, TeleTime concert, Peacemaker Fest, Turkey Track Bluegrass and lots more. It’s going to be a tough choice just which one to plan to attend and which ones to miss, but there will be something for everyone.
Read more: Oktoberfest, Taste of LeFlore County coming upThe first annual Oktoberfest Blues Jam will be Wednesday, going from 6-9 p.m. at Shop Dog Brewery Company, located at 315 Dewey Avenue in downtown Poteau.
It will be a blast.
The Red Dirt Blues Society of Eastern Oklahoma will be the host organization, and “Oreo Blue” has offered time and talents to be the house band.
Gary Hutchison, Rick Endel, Stephen Boudreaux and John Seaburg also are the core of the monthly Blues Jam in Fort Smith, Ark. Anyone can sign up. Any skill level is welcome, and the best back-up band you never had to pay for will be in attendance. Annie Kobus is the organizer of the event.
She is president of The Red Dirt Blues Society and has worked hard to promote live music in Poteau lately. This will be her second event. Her smiling face and sunburst Les Paul has played at every jam in the area. Talented and personable, she has taken lessons from Gary Hutchison and has become very capable and entertaining when she steps up to the microphone. I suspect that she has called in favors from “Oreo Blue” to make this an awesome midweek jam. Make plans to be there Wednesday. One of the best events in October is the “Taste of LeFlore County.” On Oct. 9, starting at 6 p.m., you will be able to sample the very finest and tastiest dishes served in the area. Tickets are still on sale. It’s being put on by The LeFlore County Historical Society (LCHS) and takes place, weather permitting, as a block party outside the LeFlore County Museum at Hotel Lowery on the corner of Dewey and Witte avenues, but it will be inside if it’s raining. It’s more than just awesome food as there will be live music — “The Al Grzech Trio” with special guest Don Bailey will entertain during the meal. Thanks to Dr. Al Grzech for his part in providing music for this event and “The Jazz at the Museum” concert once a month. Al/piano, David Hoffpauir/guitar and Mark Steele/drums can satisfy the need for smooth jazz. Taking the classic jazz tunes framework, they present their skills at improvisation and creativity. Add the saxophone of Don for color and depth, the songs will catch your attention and draw you into the music. It will be quite an evening. It’s reunion time for the Poteau High School Class of 1975 as the class will celebrate its 50th reunion in a big way (WOW, that makes them sound middle aged). It will start at approximately 6 p.m. Friday at the Shop Dog Brewery at 315 Dewey Avenue with a meet and greet. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, there will be another chance to get together and have lunch. Then, from 6-8:30 p.m. that night, the All-Class Reunion Supper is just for 1975 alumni, BUT, after 8:30 p.m., they will dance to the sounds of “The Tribadours” and all Pirates are invited. “Chaotic Resemblance” finished its umpteenth European Tour. They are back safely in the United States with a few dates. My favorite band still carries the message of Jesus to the masses and sometimes heathens. Love you guys!

In case you didn’t know it, there will be a great jam at Soundscape Music, located at 708 N. Broadway every Saturday Morning. Bring a song and a guitar and make some music. It will start about 9 a.m. every Saturday. Check out all the awesome guitars and gear, too.

As for live music this week, “Sidekicks Duo” will play beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday at LaHuerta’s Mexican Restaurant in Poteau. The band will play every first and third Thursday this year there.
On Friday at Crocky’s Cafe in Hackett, Ark., “The Tribadours” and Gregg Shively will take the stage for the Friday Night Fire. “The Richard Rauch Band” will be there on Saturday. They have one of the best shows going. It’s a great place to eat, hear live music and enjoy the fall weather. The music will begin at 6 p.m. both nights.
“The SideKicks Band” will be the live music at Muldrow City Limits on Saturday. This band will play great country music at an awesome venue. NS/ND allowed. There will be a big dance floor and plenty of dancing going on! The music will start at 7 p.m. See you there!
Well, times up. I won’t be able to ramble on and on with my boring ol’ stories that get bigger and better every time I tell them. Next month will be a great month for live music. Thanks for supporting it.
