OU Wins in Run-Rule Fashion Against Abilene Christian, Louisiana

NORMAN — OU clubbed eight home runs and the pitchers spun 11 shutout innings as the No. 4 Sooners (22-2) blanked Abilene Christian, 8-0, and Louisiana, 10-0, Saturday in softball on day one of the Okana Invite.

Oklahoma tallied its 10th consecutive run-rule, while winning its 11th contest in a row. The Sooners outhit their opponents, 20-5, while keeping opposing batters from tallying even one extra-base hit on the night. 

The Sooners are up to 99 home runs on the season and with one more home run would become the fastest program to 100 home runs in the history of NCAA Division I softball.

OU 8, Abilene Christian 0 (6 inn.)
Allyssa Parker of Pocola retired the first seven batters of the game and faced the minimum through 4.2 innings en route to six innings of shutout ball in the circle. 

At the plate, Ailana Agbayani and Kendall Wells hit a pair of two-run home runs and Lexi McDaniel added a solo shot. Gabbie Garcia also added an RBI double and Allyssa Parker tripled in Garcia en route to the six-inning win.

Audrey Lowry earned her 11th win with four innings of one-hit ball and the top three batters in the Sooner lineup combined for eight RBIs and three home runs as the Sooners run-ruled Louisiana, 10-0. 

All 10 of OU’s runs came via the home run ball.

Ella Parker homered in two in the first and classmates Kasidi Pickering and Ella Parker went back-to-back in the second to make it 6-0. 

Wells hit her second home run of the day, this one a 304 foot shot out of the stadium in left center. Once again it was the classmates in tandem as Lexi McDaniel hit a two-run homer to the loge boxes in center for a 10-0 lead.

Berkeley Zache fanned one in the fifth to close out the game in five and secure the shutout.

  • Agbayani matched her home run total from all of last season
  • Wells’ second home run on the day went 304 feet and cleared Love’s Field’s exterior fencing
  • Minor concluded her team-best hitting streak at 17 games
  • Barker made four assists in the first game, including making the first three plays of the game
  • Pickering and Ella Parker went back-to-back in the second game. It’s the eighth time OU batters have gone back-to-back this season
  • Ella Parker’s two homers against Louisiana marked the 13th time the Sooners have had a multi-home run game this season
  • Eight of nine Sooners tallied at least one hit against Abilene Christian

Oklahoma plays two more on Sunday to close out the Okana Invitational. The Sooners host Louisiana at 12:30 p.m. and close out the weekend against Abilene Christian at 3 p.m.
