Week 5 features big football district games for LeFlore County teams.
Read more: Week 5 features big district gamesAfter a slow start, Heavener hopes to continue its momentum from a 35-24 win over Hugo in the district opener last week, as the Wolves visit Prague for the first time since a playoff game in 1971.
Heavener is 1-3 overall, 1-0 in district play. Prague, which lost at Heavener last season, 37-6, is 2-2 and 0-1 after a 58-6 loss to undefeated Bethel last week.
While that is a big game for the Wolves and a win will give Heavener a better chance at making the playoffs for the second time in the last three years, that is far from the biggest games in the county this week.
Week 5 features exciting matchups
There are two games with much more at stake. Poteau, 4-0 and 1-0, hosts undefeated Ada and Pocola hosts defending district champion Rejoice Christian.
Both games will go a long way toward determining district champions or even a playoff spot. The Pirates lost at Ada last year before rebounding to make another playoff appearance.
The Cougars have one of the best football traditions in the state and are looking to return to past glory.
Pocola lost one game in district play last year, at Rejoice Christian. The Indians have been waiting a year for the rematch and it is finally here.
The Indians are 3-1 overall, 1-0 in district play. Rejoice Christian is also 3-1 and 1-0 after a blowout win over Haskell last week. Both teams are ranked in the top 10 in Class A-1 and the winner would have the best chance toward winning the district, although Panama will still have a say in that.
Speaking of the Razorbacks, Panama (3-1 and 1-0) tries to keep on the win train when the Razorbacks host Hulbert, 2-2 and 0-1. A win keeps Panama tied for the district lead with games against Pocola and Rejoice Christian remaining.
Talihina, undefeated and ranked No. 1 in Class A-II will put its undefeated record on the line, as the Golden Tigers host Gore, 2-2 and 1-0 in a game between two of the four teams tied atop the district standings.
Spiro is still looking for its first district win and the Bulldogs will be aiming for a victory when they host another tough challenge against Valliant. Valliant is ranked in the top 10 in Class 2A-II and is 4-0 and 1-0 so Spiro will have another difficult foe before the opponents drop down a level for the rest of the season aside from Henryetta.
Arkoma, 2-3, has a bye this week.
