Week 7 another good week for county teams

Week 7 another good week for LeFlore County football teams even though they were playing a day earlier than usual due to the fall break.

Poteau, Panama, Pocola and Talihina won while Heavener lost at fifth-ranked Kingston and Spiro came up short against Morris in a game against previously winless teams.

Poteau made its second straight trip to the Tulsa area and came away with a 28-17 win over a dangerous Tulsa McLain team. For Poteau, the win was extra important in potential playoff standings, especially Poteau is going into the most difficult games of the schedule against Sallisaw, Hilldale and Broken Bow.

Poteau is 6-1 overall and 3-1 in district play. McLain is 3-4 and 1-3.

Panama rebounded from its loss to Rejoice Christian last week with a 48-6 win over Warner to further strengthen its bid for a playoff spot. The Razorbacks improve to 5-2 and 3-1 while Warner is 1-6 and 1-4.

The Razorbacks host Haskell next week.

Pocola had little trouble dispatching Chouteau, winning 70-8. The Indians are 5-2 and 3-1 and Chouteau is 0-7 and 0-4. Pocola has an important game next week at Hartshorne, which is 4-3 and 3-1 after losing to Rejoice Christian.

Talihina was expected to have a tougher time against Liberty, but the Golden Tigers demolished Liberty, winning 63-7. Talihina improves to 7-0 overall, 4-0 in district play. Liberty is 4-3 and 2-2. The Golden Tigers have another showdown next week with an improved Wewoka team.

Heavener fell behind big early against fifth-ranked Kingston on the road and lost 48-20. The Wolves are 2-5 overall, 2-2 in a suddenly wild district standings after Roland upset Bethel last night, 26-22.

This leaves four of the district’s eight teams tied for third place. Kingston leads the district and Kiefer is second. Heavener, Bethel, Prague and Roland all are tied at 2-2 in district play with Hugo one game back while Okmulgee is winless in district play and hosts Heavener next week.

After Okmulgee next week, Heavener hosts Kiefer in week 9 and closes out the regular season with a trip to Bethel.
