Whitesboro girls lose to Kiowa in the opening round of the Class B basketball state tournament Wednesday.

The Lady Bulldogs, ranked ninth, fell behind early to seventh-ranked Kiowa, 16-5, at the end of the first quarter and never threatened, trailing 32-19 at half, 49-34 at the end of three and 61-51 when the final buzzer sounded.

Kiowa improves to 22-5 and advances to play Hammon in the semifinals Friday. Whitesboro finished with a 19-8 record.

Zoni Wright scored 14 points to lead Whitesboro, River Cogburn had 13 and Abby James finished with 10.

The three other LeFlore County teams in action in the Class 2A state tournaments play Thursday, also at the Fairgrounds.

In the 2A boys’ bracket, Pocola’s boys play Riverside at 1:30 p.m. while in the 2A girls’ bracket, Howe’s girls get a rematch with Hartshorne at 7:30 and Pocola’s girls meet Okemah at 9 p.m.
