Wilburton man sentenced for illegally possessing firearm 

MUSKOGEE – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Joshua Wayne Taylor, 47, of Wilburton was sentenced to 13 months in prison for one count of Felon in Possession of Firearm and Ammunition.

The charge arose from an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Latimer County Sheriff’s Office. 

On Aug. 27, 2025, Taylor pleaded guilty to the charge in federal district court.  According to investigators, Taylor knowingly possessed a .22LR revolver and 53 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition on Nov. 18, 2024, after having been previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year imprisonment. 

Ronald A. White, Senior Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing.  Taylor will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.
