The 2026 football season kicks off for LeFlore County teams Thursday in Week 0 games.
Heavener travels to Pocola in a LeFlore County matchup, marking the first time the two schools have met in three years since the Wolves rallied in the second half to edge the Indians, 33-32.
In the county’s other matchup, Talihina visits the Muskogee JV as the Golden Tigers take the field for the first time since capturing the Class A state championship gold ball in December 2025.
The county clash features an intriguing matchup between Heavener (Class 2A-I) and Pocola (Class A-I).
Heavener has faced a grueling schedule since that meeting, which also marked the Wolves’ last postseason appearance.
Pocola has had a lot of success since the last meeting, making the playoffs an annual event. The Indians were 10-3 and made the semifinals before losing to Tonkawa.
But it is a totally new season. Pocola lost a lot of players off last year’s team while Heavener has good talent in the skill positions but will be young on the offensive and defensive lines.
Talihina is coming off a perfect season, finishing 14-0 with a 26-20 win over Hominy in the Class A-II championship game.
The other LeFlore County schools are in action Friday as Poteau visits Metro Christian; Panama hosts Stigler; and Westville is at Spiro.
