Daily Bible verse for July 4 featuring Galatians 5:13.
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” — Galatians 5:13.
On a weekend when America celebrates freedom, this verse offers a timely reminder that true freedom was never meant to be about self-indulgence. The Apostle Paul, writing to the early church in Galatia, warned against twisting liberty into an excuse for selfishness. Instead, he pointed to a deeper purpose: freedom is meant to be used in service to others.
It’s a message that fits well with the spirit of a small community like ours in LeFlore County, where neighbors still show up for one another — whether that’s a meal delivered after a loss, a helping hand during harvest, or simply checking in on someone who’s struggling. Freedom, in that sense, isn’t about doing whatever we want. It’s about having the ability to choose love, and choosing it again and again, humbly and without expecting anything in return.
As you celebrate this Independence Day weekend, may this verse be a gentle reminder that the freedom we enjoy carries a responsibility to love and serve those around us.
