Daily Bible verse for June 30, 2-26.

“Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” — Luke 6:28

The Context of Luke 6:28

In this passage from the Gospel of Luke, Jesus delivers some of His most challenging moral teachings during the Sermon on the Plain. He calls on His followers to radically shift how they interact with difficult people, opponents, and those who cause them harm.

Rather than advocating for passive submission, the scripture demands active, intentional goodwill toward individuals who show hostility.

What It Means to “Bless and Pray”

Human nature pushes most people to retaliate when insulted or wronged. However, this verse instructs believers to break the cycle of negativity.

To “bless” means to speak well of someone or desire their ultimate good, while praying for an antagonist forces a shift in perspective. It guards the heart against bitterness, transferring the burden of justice over to a higher power.

Daily Application

Practicing Luke 6:28 does not mean tolerating abuse or pretending that injustice does not hurt. Instead, it offers a strategy to protect your own mental and spiritual peace.

When faced with a difficult coworker, an angry neighbor, or an unfair situation today, pause before reacting. Choosing to offer a silent prayer for that person alters the dynamic entirely, diffusing resentment before it takes root.
