2015—Heavener Chamber awarded grant from OG&E for cleanup…Snow, ice storms hit area over the weekend…Trust fund established for Jack Edward Scott Jr. for his wife and two sons…Commissioners approve truck purchase for Haw Creed Fire Department…Applications available from conservation district for construction of new ponds…Joey Clubb to run for city council again…Gail Loar honored at open house at Heavener City Hall…David Washington celebrates 90th birthday…Time changes over the weekend…Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb to visit Poteau.

1975—Heavener School Board votes to continue with controversial dress code…Johnny Miller of Heavener wins Arts and Science Fair at EOSC…Wood ‘N Rail Restaurant in Heavener will reopen next week after remodeling…OSU conducting class on metric system on area…Zoe received 4.88 inches of precipitation and eight inches of snow during the month…Edgar Phillips of Howe has a 16-foot travel trailer for sale…Hub Café needs to hire a morning waitress and a kitchen helper…The Marx Brothers star in “Animal Crackers” at the Liberty Theater this week.

1965—Several homes in Heavener now have cable television through Transwestern Video cable TV…Tim Wise has grand champion and annual calf and pig show in Heavener…New bridge over Kiamichi River now open…Heavener Christian Church pays off mortgage and has mortgage burning party…Charles Blankenship is the new Forest Ranger…Phil Freeman has A 1963 Ford 4-door for sale, $1,500…Hank Williams stars in “Your Cheating Heart” at the Liberty this week.

70 YEARS AGO

1955—Charles Wilson files for another term as mayor…Haw Creek Roping Club announces the Haw Creek rodeo is May 5-7…Walter Swaim has a 1940 Oldsmobile with good tires for sale…The K&K Drive-in Café has a string band every Friday night…Dance at Taylor’s Inn Tues with Dell Clayton and his Orchestra.

90 YEARS AGO

1935—Thief jacks up Joe Searce’s car and steals a wheel while he was in church…Emmett Addison and Mack Hall are said to be considering a run for town’s mayor…Heavener School Board will keep schools open while waiting for funding from the state…Okla Coach is just $470 homa is one of 13 sates dropped from the Federal Relief Funds rolls for March…New Chevy Standard Coach is only $470 at Heavener Auto Sales…W.I. Beavers has a young Jersey cow for sale.

100 YEARS AGO

1925—Poteau visited with a severe hail storm Tuesday as more than 100 windows were broken at the high school. Hail stones were about the size of walnuts and damaged numerous cars in the downtown area. One child was injured…Work is being rushed for the competition of the fish hatchery dam…Two whiskey stills destroyed in the area.
