Final three LeFlore County football teams kick off Friday

After three LeFlore County football teams (Heavener, Pocola, and Talihina) kicked off the season Thursday, the remaining three area schools (Panama, Poteau, and Spiro) take the field Friday night.

Friday’s county slate features Stigler at Panama, Poteau at Metro Christian, and Westville at Spiro. All games kick off at 7 p.m.

The marquee matchup is in Tulsa, where Poteau travels to face Class 3A power Metro Christian. Panama faces a tough test hosting a large Class 3A Stigler squad. Spiro looks to get back in the win column following a winless campaign a year ago, hosting a Westville team that went 2-8 last season.

In Thursday night action, Pocola jumped out to a 28-0 lead over Heavener on the way to a 40-15 victory. The Wolves could not mount a second-half comeback. Pocola (1-0) travels to Keys next week, while Heavener (0-1) visits Central Sallisaw in the annual rivalry matchup that went to double overtime last season.

Talihina extended its winning streak to 15 games despite an early deficit against the Muskogee JV. The Golden Tigers stormed back to build a commanding 40-7 lead by halftime before cruising to a 40-21 victory. Talihina (1-0) is off with a bye next week.
