Burial will follow at Old Bokoshe Cemetery, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro. Janie was born Dec. 13, 1943, to Jewel (Stephens) Shockley and Henry Shockley and passed away peacefully May 12, 2025, in Booneville, Arkansas.

She retired from the Bokoshe School cafeteria, where she was known for her warm smile and kind spirit. Janie enjoyed a simple and fulfilling life—spending time fishing with Earl, solving Sudoku puzzles, and reading. She loved painting and crocheting with her close friends Wanda Norris and Hazel Pollock—affectionately known as her “partners in crime.” Her greatest joy, however, came from being “Grammy” to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She adored each one and cherished the time she spent playing and laughing with them.

Janie married the love of her life, James Earl Smith Nov. 7, 1964, in Panama. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2024. Janie was also preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Doyle Shockley and James Shockley; and her great-granddaughter, Cambrie Smith.

Janie is survived by her daughter Beth Roberson and husband Mike; grandchildren Brent Hutcherson and wife Sierra, Laci Smith and husband Kody, Kyle Roberson and wife Jodie, and Kenny Roberson and wife Nikoletta; great-grandchildren Brooke Hutcherson, Carter Smith, Taylee Wooten, Delilah Roberson, Heidi Roberson, Oliviana Roberson, Lainey Smith, Rustin Hutcherson, Tucker Hutcherson, Luke Roberson, Hunter Roberson, Remi Roberson and Riley Smith; brother, Ed Shockley; sisters Mary Bourne, Sarah Sockey and Etta Gipson; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Pallbearers are Brent Hutcherson, Kyle Roberson, Stacy Bourne, Kody Smith, Bill Lafferty and Charlie Burton. Honorary pallbearers are Kenny Roberson, Tracy Bourne, James Casey, Garry Smith and Greg Norris.

Visitation is Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
