Heavener spotted Panama an early 7-0 lead before scoring 48 straight points to defeat the Razorbacks, 48-7, in the Wolves’ home opener Friday.
Heavener, now 1-2, defeated the Razorbacks, 0-2, by the biggest margin since a 50-19 win in 2003. In the oldest series now being played between two LeFlore County schools, Heavener has a 41-22-3 advantage, although Panama has won seven of the previous nine games going into this week.
The Wolves have a bye next week, along with most of the county teams, gearing up for district openers in two weeks. Heavener opens district play at Checotah on Sept. 25. Panama hosts Wilburton next week, looking for its first win of the year.

Saul Silva caught three touchdown passes for Heavener, including the go-ahead score in the first quarter. The Wolves led 28-7 at halftime before adding 20 more points in the second half.
Poteau also got a win, but the outcome was far different. The Pirates, now 2-1, gave up a score in overtime before answering with a touchdown and two-point conversion for a 29-28 win over Grove. The Pirates open district play at home in two weeks against Mannford after taking next week off
The Ridgerunners are 1-1. This was the first time the two schools played in 20 years, since Grove downed Poteau, 30-25, in the state semifinals in 2006.
Spiro fell to 0-3 with the 42-0 loss to Wilburton. The Bulldogs have lost 16 straight games, dating back to a 28-21 win over Atoka on 10-25-2024.
The Bulldogs have a bye next week before opening district play Sept. 25 at Hugo. Wilburton is 2-0 and plays at Panama next week in the final non-district tune-up for both teams.
Pocola bounced back from last week’s loss to Keys with a 16-12 victory over Salina on Friday. The Indians improve to 2-1 and visit Vian in two weeks after a bye next week. Salina is 1-1.
In the biggest game of the week, Talihina outscored Mansfield, Arkansas, 61-46 in a battle between two defending state champions. The Golden Tigers won the Class A-II championship last year while Mansfield won Class 3A state title in Arkansas.
Talihina took the early lead, returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown and kept scoring, eventually leading 42-14 before Mansfield cut the lead to 48-38 before Talihina put the game away.
The Golden Tigers are now 2-0 and play Broken Bow’s junior varsity next week. Mansfield drops to 1-2.
