Heavener uses a big first inning to defeat Spiro, 16-2, in slow pitch softball Monday on the Lady Wolves’ home opener.

After spotting the Lady Bulldogs two runs in the first inning, Heavener roared back with the 16 runs in the bottom half of the inning to get the run-rule win.
Heavener, which has no seniors, was led by Kristy Shadwick, who was 3-3 with a home run and a double, with two RBI and two runs scored.
Kelsey Morrison doubled and went 2-2 with three RBI and two runs, Haylee Morrison finished 2-3 with two runs, Annistyn Cartwright was 2-2 with two runs and two RBI, Kaitlin Hurst had a 2-3 outing with two runs and two RBI, Mattison Smallen was the winning pitcher and went 2-2 at the plate with two runs and a RBI as Heavener pounded out 15 hits.
Heavener is 3-3 and visits McCurtain Tuesday. Spiro is 0-4 and hosts Cameron and Poteau in a three-way Tuesday.
