Heavener.news is asking readers and businesses for donations to help preserve decades of local history by digitizing old editions of the Heavener Ledger and making them available online for everyone to view.
We have bound copies of the Heavener Ledger dating from the 1960s through 2020. These newspapers contain nearly 60 years of Heavener’s history, including school activities, sporting events, weddings, obituaries, local businesses, government meetings and countless stories about the people who helped shape our community.
Our goal is to scan these newspapers and create a digital archive that will allow readers to look through old editions from their computers, tablets or phones.
Once completed, the archive would provide a valuable resource for former residents, families, students, historians and anyone interested in Heavener’s past.
However, digitizing approximately 60 years of weekly newspapers will be a major undertaking. The project will require specialized scanning equipment, computer storage and many hours of work to scan, organize and prepare thousands of newspaper pages for online viewing.
We are asking readers who would like to help preserve Heavener’s history to consider making a donation toward this project.
There is no required donation amount. Every contribution, regardless of size, will help purchase the necessary equipment and support the work involved in making these newspapers available to the public.
Donations may be mailed to:
Craig Hall
P.O. Box 550
Heavener, OK 74937
Please include Newspaper Digitization Project with your donation.
Our intention is to make the completed archive available to all readers of Heavener.news, allowing future generations to discover the stories, photographs and events that tell the history of Heavener.
These newspapers are more than old editions of a publication. They are a record of our community, its people and its history.
With your help, we can preserve that history and make it accessible for generations to come.
Thank you for supporting Heavener.news and helping preserve Heavener’s past.
