From an early age, Joe displayed a passion for sports, particularly baseball. His love for the game was so profound that he would hitchhike to the field just to play. This dedication carried him far; during his service in the United States Army from Dec. 28, 1960 to Oct. 16, 1963, Joe played four years of baseball while stationed in Korea. His time in the military not only showcased his athletic talent but also demonstrated his commitment to service his country.

Known for his storytelling and warm personality, Joe left an impression on everyone he met. After many years of hard work behind the wheel, he retired and enjoyed approximately 15 years of well-earned rest.
In retirement, Joe embraced his hobbies with enthusiasm. An avid outdoorsman, he excelled in hunting and fishing. He was particularly skilled as a bow hunter and earned numerous accolades in bow-hunting competitions. Beyond his personal achievements in the field and on the water, Joe found immense joy in teaching his children and grandchildren how to hunt—a tradition that brought him closer to those he cherished most.
Joe’s love for baseball never waned; it remained one of his greatest passions throughout his life. Whether playing competitively or simply enjoying the sport recreationally, baseball held a special place in his heart.
A man of faith who worshipped at Baptist churches throughout his life, Joe was known for his kindness and generosity. He often went out of his way to help others—whether by offering assistance or simply giving someone a ride when they needed it most.
