Establishment of Heavener Post Office (1896): While the official post office was established in a boxcar on May 12, 1896, May 13 marked the first full day of postal operations for the newly settled community.
Railroad Expansion (1896): During this week in 1896, the Kansas City, Pittsburg and Gulf Railroad (predecessor to the Kansas City Southern) was actively laying tracks through what would become Heavener, transforming it into a vital division point for the region.
