Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Very warm temperatures and heavy humidity are gripping southeast Oklahoma. However, big changes are on the horizon for LeFlore County, including Poteau, Heavener, and the surrounding areas, as a cold front moves in to bring a significant threat of severe weather followed by a much-needed weekend cooldown.

If you have outdoor plans, high school sports camps, or travel scheduled along US-59 or US-271, you will want to keep a close eye on the sky starting this afternoon. Stay up to date with our live radar.

Thursday Forecast

  • Daytime: Expect partly cloudy, breezy, and incredibly muggy conditions. Highs will top out near 91°F to 92°F. With dew points hovering in the mid-70s, the heat index (how it actually feels) will easily climb into the upper 90s—so take it easy if you are working or playing outside. Winds will be out of the south-southwest at 10 to 20 mph.
  • Nighttime: A 60% chance of rain and thunderstorms develops overnight as a front approaches. Note: A few of these overnight storms could become severe, packing damaging winds and heavy downpours. Temperatures will drop to a sticky low of 72°F.

Friday: Lingering Storms & Humid

  • High: 90°F
  • Low: 72°F
  • Rain Chance: 30%
  • Outlook: The atmosphere stays heavily charged and humid. Expect cloudy skies with a continuing chance of scattered showers and stray thunderstorms throughout the day. Keep an umbrella handy, as any storm that forms can pop up quickly and dump heavy rain.

Weekend Weather Outlook

Saturday: High Storm Probability

  • High: 93°F
  • Low: 74°F
  • Rain Chance: 85%
  • Outlook: Saturday looks to be the wettest day of the stretch. While daytime temperatures will briefly spike into the lower 90s under heavy humidity, a widespread wave of showers and thunderstorms is expected to sweep through the county by afternoon and evening. Outdoor weekend events may face delays.

Sunday: The Cool Down Begins

  • High: 86°F
  • Low: 70°F
  • Rain Chance: 25%
  • Outlook: Relief arrives just in time for Sunday. Skies will remain mostly cloudy and humid, but the bulk of the severe weather risks move east, leaving us with just a lingering late-day shower chance and much more manageable daytime highs in the mid-80s.
