Hot and dry conditions continue across LeFlore County today, but relief may finally be on the way for the July 4th weekend.

Today, Wednesday, July 1 — Sunny and hot. High near 96. South winds 10 to 20 mph. Low tonight around 78.

Thursday, July 2 — Sunny and hot with a 25 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms developing late in the day. High near 96.

Friday, July 3 — Partly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. High near 93, a slight step down from the recent stretch of upper-90s heat.

Saturday, July 4 — A 45 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms continues into Independence Day. High near 93. If you’re planning outdoor July 4th celebrations, keep an eye on the radar as the day approaches — this could bring some scattered storm activity to fireworks displays and outdoor gatherings.

The bottom line: After nearly two weeks of dry, triple-digit-adjacent heat, a better rain chance is building into the holiday weekend. It won’t be a washout, but showers and storms look increasingly likely by Friday and Saturday. Stay hydrated through the rest of the week’s heat, and check back for updates as the holiday forecast comes into better focus.
