Lucretia Ann Frost obituary

Lucretia Ann Frost, 84, of Heavener passed away at home, surrounded by her loved ones, on Oct. 21, 2026. She was born on July 11, 1942, in the Stapp Zoe community to Albert and Christine (Dorsey) Vinson.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Heavener with Brother Bud Vinson and Brother Sam Dyer officiating and the Nightingale Tribute provided by the Nurses Honor Guard. Burial will follow in Heavener Memorial Park, under the direction and care of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.

Lucretia attended school in Stapp Zoe through the eighth grade before continuing her education at Heavener High School. She went on to attend the Enid School of Nursing, becoming a registered nurse and beginning a lifetime of caring for others.

On July 2, 1963, she married Donald Frost at Stapp Zoe Baptist Church. Their life together took them to Germany, Stillwater, and Talihina before they returned to the Heavener area. They raised two daughters, Melissa and April, and built a life filled with family, hard work, and faith. In 1979, they established their home, where cattle, chickens, pigs, horses, gardens, and the everyday demands of farm life kept them busy. Lucretia was a nurse, a coach’s wife, a mother, and a farm wife, giving her time and care wherever it was needed.

Throughout her nursing career, Lucretia served patients and families across several communities. Her work included Stillwater General Hospital, serving as Director of Nurses at Poteau Hospital, psychiatric nursing, and caring for veterans, including supervising an Alzheimer’s unit at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Talihina. Helping people feel better was her special talent, and that care extended far beyond her working hours.

Lucretia was a member of First Baptist Church of Heavener, where she served in many ways over the years. She participated in the choir, Sunday school, Training Union, AWANA, the nursery, and the quilting club. She also helped in the kitchen and served as a church camp sponsor and counselor. Whether caring for a baby, encouraging a child, or preparing a meal, she found ways to put her faith into practice.

Of all the names and titles she held, “Nana” was among the most treasured. She loved her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and took joy in being part of their lives. Camping trips and vacations with her grandchildren created memories they will carry with them always. Her love reached from infancy into adulthood, offering comfort, encouragement, and a place where they belonged.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, camping, swimming, fishing, shopping, and eating out. She loved being outdoors and bird watching. Those who knew her

will remember her sweetness, her kindness, and the way she made people feel cared for.

She is survived by her brother, Cliff Vinson; her daughters Melissa Jackson and April Smith and husband Cody; six grandchildren Paige Pickle, Shelby Cox and husband Garrett, Lillian Burton and husband Brent, Morgan McMillin and husband Dax, Meredith Smith, and Olivia Smith; four great-grandchildren Westen Rimer, Brentley Jones, Tanner Sisco and Charlie Taylor; and a host of other beloved family members and friends.

Lucretia was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Frost; her parents Albert and Christine Vinson; and her siblings Frank Simpkins and Jack Vinson.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers, Pat Hamby, Tawnya Green, and Shana Woodral, for the love, exceptional care, and comfort they provided to her in her final days.

Her family will remember her as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. To those she helped raise, she was more than a grandmother—she was a mother and the comfort of home. Her love lives on in the family she nurtured, the people she cared for, and the everyday kindness she taught by example.

Viewing is from 9 a.m. until noon on Monday.

Pallbearers are Cody Smith, Bill Frost, Billy Frost, Benji Frost, Westen Rimer, and Tanner Sisco. Honorary pallbearers are Cliff Vinson, Pat Hamby, Tawnya Green, and Shana Woodral.
