OSBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Panama

According to a press release from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation requested the OSBI to investigate an officer-involved shooting on Aug. 16.

At around 2:10 a.m., the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office conducted a field sobriety test on a driver near 240th Avenue and Arnold Drive in Panama.

While deputies were conducting the field sobriety test on the adult male driver, he ran toward his vehicle and retrieved a firearm from inside. The suspect then discharged the firearm, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.

The suspect was treated on scene and transported to a local hospital in stable condition. There were no other injuries during the shooting.

This is still an ongoing investigation. Once the OSBI completes its investigation, it will provide its report to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma for review.
