Panama pulls off big win in Week 5 play

Panama pulled off the biggest win in Week 5 play, Hugo rallied late to defeat Heavener and Broken Bow pulled away from Poteau in District 4A-4 play.

The Razorbacks stayed perfect in district play and improved to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the district with a 43-14 win over perennial power Vian.

Panama dominated the second half to pull away from the Wolverines, who reached the Class 2A-II championship game the last two years before dropping to Class A-I this season.

Panama visits Haskell next week. Vian, which fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in district play, hosts Warner.

Heavener battled back after trailing throughout the game and took a 29-28 lead in the fourth quarter before Hugo regained the lead and held on for a 36-29 win.

The Buffaloes improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in district play. Heavener fell to 1-4 and 0-2 and visits defending Class 3A champion Lincoln Christian next week. Hugo hosts Victory Christian.

Broken Bow bounced back from last week’s loss to Sallisaw by breaking open a close game and defeating Poteau, 62-31.

Broken Bow improved to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in district play and visits Tulsa McLain next week. Poteau, now 3-2 and 1-1, hosts Ada, which is 2-0 in district play.

Spiro forfeited its game against Checotah, resulting in a 15-0 loss. The Bulldogs are 0-5 overall and 0-2 in district play and are scheduled to visit Roland next week.

Checotah improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the district. The Wildcats host Sequoyah-Tahlequah next week. The Indians have one loss, which came against Lincoln Christian last week.

Pocola bounced back from last week’s loss at Vian with a 44-12 win over Hulbert.

The Indians improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in district play and visit Coalgate next week in an important game for the district standings. Hulbert fell to 2-3 and 0-2.

Talihina continued its undefeated start with a 55-14 win at Gore. Read the story.

Talihina improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in district play. The Golden Tigers host Porter next week. Gore, now 2-3 and 0-2, visits Regent Prep.
