Ronnie Douglas “RP” Parent, 80, of Spiro, passed away June 4, 2025 in his hometown of Spiro.

A memorial service honoring his life is 2 p.m. Sunday at Mallory-Martin Chapel in Spiro with Jab Warren officiating.

Burial with military honors will take place at a later date at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro.

Ronnie was born July 25, 1944, in Spiro to Mildred (Darneal) Parent and Clifford Parent. He married the love of his life, Jane Anne Ainsworth, on July 14, 1975, in Spiro.

A man known for his tireless work ethic and generous heart, RP was a true jack of all trades—many would say work was his favorite hobby.

He spent many years shaping young minds as a teacher and principal at Spiro Public Schools, Pansy Kidd Middle School and Carl Albert State College.

As a middle and high school principal, he earned both the respect and affection of his students—who often said they loved him, even if he gave a memorable paddling or two.

RP proudly served his country as a United States Navy Seabee during the Vietnam War and later continued that spirit of service in his own community.

e was a retired firefighter and served as Mayor of Spiro for over a decade.

His contributions to his town were numerous and lasting. He also enjoyed welding and working at Tobler’s Wrecker, where he found joy in the hands-on work and camaraderie.

RP was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation serving on the Choctaw Gaming Commission.

Outside of his many professional and civic roles, Ronnie loved hunting, fishing, and spending peaceful time with family at the cabin in McCurtain.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ronnie is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Jane Anne Parent; son Brandon Parent and husband Allen Postier; daughter, LeAnn Lea; his treasured cat, Toodles; and numerous other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Myrna DiPierne.

Honorary pallbearers are Tom Tobler, Eddie Stout, James Linville, Ron Lawson, Stormy Baxter, Steve Underwood, Jesse Henry, AJ Henshaw, Nick Grant, JL Williams, Jim Ed Stout and Luke Styles.
