July 4 was celebrated with a lot of fanfare this year, as it was also the nation’s 250th birthday. I love this nation. I try never to take for granted the liberty we enjoy. Working in state government, I get a glimpse of how hard it must have been for our nation’s founders to come to agreement on documents such as the Declaration of Independence and, later, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Gov. Kevin Stitt came to Poteau last week to deliver citations to several law enforcement officers who were involved in an ambush attack in Wister back in April. Many of their family members also attended the private ceremony, getting to meet one-on-one with the governor.
A day after winning reelection to his House seat, Rep. Tom Gann, R-Inola, filed an appeal of another Oklahoma Corporation Commission ruling to the Oklahoma Supreme Court. He was joined by Rep. Kevin West, R-Moore.
State Question 832, a proposal to raise Oklahoma’s minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2029, failed Tuesday in the primary election.

One of the bills that is now state law will double the amount of recess time for students in full-day kindergarten through fifth grade.
