Another big week of high school football action again Friday in Week 2 games as all six LeFlore County teams are in action, the last non-district game for several schools.

While Heavener hosts Panama forthe 67th time the LeFlore County foes meet, that is not the biggest game Friday.

The undisputable big game has the battle of the champions contest in Talihina as the Golden Tigers host Mansfield in the battle of 2025 state champions. The Golden Tigers won the Class 2A-II championship last season while the Tigers from across the state line won the Class 3A state championship in Arkansas.

Both teams were undefeated last season. Talihina is 1-0 after a win over Muskogee’s JV while Mansfield lost its opener to Dardenelle, snapping a 15-game winning streak before winning over Mena last week.

Panama 1

Panama and Heavener are both looking for their first wins. The Razorbacks are 0-1 after a bye week last week following a loss to Stigler in the opener. Heavener is 0-2 after losing at Pocola and Central to start the season.

Poteau also has another tough game again this week. The Pirates, 1-1, host Grove (1-0) in the Pirates’ home opener. Poteau lost at Metro Christian to open the season before bouncing back to win at Tahlequah last week.

Spiro, 0-2, is looking for its first win in two years as the Bulldogs host Wilburton in a matchup of two teams that were in the same district last year before Spiro moved up to 2A-I this year.

Pocola is also looking to bounce back from a rare loss last week at Keys when the Indians host Salina this week. Pocola is 1-1 while Salina is 1-0 after a 55-0 victory over Locust Grove last week.

Panama and Talihina are the only county teams scheduled to play next week as the other county teams have a bye next week before opening district play in two weeks.

Panama hosts Wilburton next week while Talihina plays Broken Bow’s junior varsity due to the Golden Tigers having trouble finding varsity opponents.
