Zero week
The top game of the week has a LeFlore County showdown on Aug. 27 with Heavener visiting Pocola as the teams play for the first time in three years.
Other good bets are Poteau at Metro Christian and Stigler at Panama, scheduled for Aug. 28.
Week 1
Week 1 features a fairly light schedule with the top game featuring Poteau stepping up a class to visit Tahlequah.
Other good bets are Heavener at Central along with Pocola at Keys.
Week 2
There is no question about the top game for Week 2. It features Mansfield, Arkansas visiting Talihina in a matchup of two defending state champion and undefeated teams. Mansfield won the 3A state championship in Arkansas while Talihina captured the Class A-II crown.
Other good bets have Panama at Heavener and Poteau hosting Grove.
Week 3
Week 3 has a light schedule as most teams have a bye to prepare for the district opener the following week. The top game has Wilburton visiting Panama.
The only other game that week has Broken Bow’s JV visiting Talihina.
Week 4
The start of district play for most county teams. The top game has Pocola going to battle Vian in a game that could decide the district championship.
Other good games have Heavener at Checotah as the Wildcats drop down from Class 3A to 2A-I. Another interesting contest has Spiro at Hugo, which should be a good indication on Spiro’s strength for this year against a playoff team from last year.
Week 5
The top game in Week 5 has Poteau visiting Broken Bow in a game that could easily have playoff implications.
Other good bets are Hugo at Heavener along with Vian at Panama.
Week 6
Week 6 features another key playoff battle for Poteau as the Pirates host Ada to cap off a rough two-week stretch.
Other interesting games have Heavener visiting the defending Class 3A champions Lincoln Christian along with Pocola at Coalgate.
Week 7
The top battle in Week 7 has Talihina visiting Central, in what should be the game to decide the district championship and is also likely to be the Golden Tigers’ toughest district opponent.
The best of the rest has Coalgate at Panama along with Heavener hosting a rebuilt Roland team.
Week 8
Week 8’s featured game has Hilldale at Poteau in a battle which almost always has a big impact on the final district standings.
The best of the rest has Sequoyah-Tahlequah visiting Heavener for the first time in a rematch of a playoff game from three years ago, along with Pocola at Warner.
Week 9
This is probably the weakest week of the season with no games that really stand out.
Week 10
After a so-so week in Week 9, it is much better in Week 10. The top game has Sallisaw at Poteau with two games featuring LeFlore County teams as Spiro is at Heavener and Pocola travels to Panama.
