Poteau council, trustees to meet Monday for regular sessions

Poteau‘s city council and two of its public trusts will hold their regularly scheduled meetings Monday evening at Poteau City Hall, 111 Peters St., with a full slate of business including a resolution for economic development, personnel changes and several property hazard cases.

Poteau Industrial Authority

The Poteau Industrial Authority’s Board of Trustees meets first at 5:30 p.m. Beyond the routine consent agenda — approving July 6 meeting minutes, purchase orders and July budget transfers — trustees will consider Resolution 2026-07, which would approve a forgivable loan and economic development agreement between the authority and Pirate Plaza LLC.

Poteau Public Works Authority

The Public Works Authority trustees follow at 5:35 p.m., or immediately after the Industrial Authority meeting concludes. The agenda consists primarily of the consent items — July 6 minutes, purchase orders and July budget transfers — along with departmental reports. No other action items are listed.

Poteau City Council

The city council convenes at 5:40 p.m., or immediately following the Public Works Authority meeting.

Beyond the consent agenda, council members are set to consider full-time benefits for Kelsey Kimmel as a 911 dispatcher and for Rylan Richmond in the cemetery department, along with the resignation of patrolman Danny Bohannon from the police department.

The council will also present service pins recognizing Connie Shockley for five years as a council member, Michael Hughes for 10 years with the police department, Ronnie Burgess for five years as street commissioner and Ross Allen for five years with the street department.

Several property matters round out the agenda. The council will revisit progress at 506 Page, 303 Elm and 308 Austin to determine whether those properties still qualify as a detriment or hazard under state law. A separate hearing will address a property at 401 Sage owned by Ramirez, to determine whether it qualifies as a detriment or hazard and would benefit from removal of those conditions. If the council finds the Sage Street property meets that standard, members will also consider authorizing cleanup of trash and mowing on the property, along with approving a future summary abatement.
