LeFlore County sports today for Saturday with Friday’s scores.
In football, all the LeFlore County football teams started district play Friday with mixed results.
Finals had Heavener losing at Checotah, 52-0, Poteau welcomed Mannford to Class 4A with a 37-6 win, Spiro lost its 16th straight game to Hugo, 45-0, Panama won its first game with a 50-8 victory over Hulbert, Vian edged Pocola, 20-16, and Talihina opened defense of its district championship with a 69-0 smashing of Mounds, the town, not the candy bar.
Heavener dropped to 1-3 overall, 0-1 in district play. Checotah is 4-0 and 1-0. The Wolves host Hugo next week in another district game.
Poteau improved to 3-1 and 1-0 while Mannford drops to 3-1 and 0-1. Poteau has another big game next week as the Pirates visit Broken Bow.
Spiro fell to 0-4 and 0-1 with the loss to the Buffaloes, now 3-1 and 1-0. Spiro hosts Checotah next week.
After a rough non-district slate, Panama got its first win in the district opener, hammering Hulbert to improve to 1-3 and 1-0. The Razorbacks welcome Vian next week.
Pocola’s hopes of getting off to a fast start in district play were stymied by Vian in the 20-16 loss. The Indians are 2-2 and 0-1 while Vian is also 2-2 and 1-0. Hulbert visits Pocola next week.
Talihina stayed perfect with the easy win over Mounds. The Golden Tigers are 4-0 and 1-0 heading into next week’s game at Gore. Mounds is 1-3 and 0-1.
In fast pitch softball, it was not a good day for county teams as Howe and Panama were eliminated in postseason play.
After defeating Hartshorne Thursday, the Lady Lions were swept by Hartshorne Friday, losing the opener, 11-6, before dropping the if game, 11-2.
