A boundary left behind by early morning storms is set to focus new thunderstorm development this afternoon across far southeast Oklahoma, with a marginal risk for severe weather and damaging winds as the primary threat. Beyond today, a genuine mid-week cooldown is on the way before heat builds back in by the weekend.
Today, Monday, July 13 — Partly sunny and hot with a high near 92. A 20 percent chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, with a marginal risk that any storm that fires up could turn strong to severe, mainly producing damaging wind gusts. Keep an eye on the sky this afternoon, especially if you have outdoor plans.
Tuesday, July 14 — Sunny and hot, with a high near 93. Rain chances stay low at 15 percent. Humidity and heat index values will run a few degrees above the actual temperature.
Wednesday, July 15 — A real break arrives. Rain chances jump sharply to 65 percent as a stronger system moves through, and temperatures drop noticeably, with a high near just 83. This looks like the best rain-making day of the stretch, and likely the most comfortable day as well.
Thursday, July 16 — Partly cloudy with a 25 percent chance of lingering showers. High near 91 as warmer air begins working back in behind Wednesday’s system.
Friday, July 17 — Mostly sunny and warm, with a high near 91 and just a 15 percent rain chance. A generally dry end to the workweek.
The bottom line: Today carries the most immediate concern, with a marginal severe storm risk and damaging wind gusts possible this afternoon and evening across far southeast Oklahoma. Behind that, expect a stretch of hot, mostly dry weather Tuesday before Wednesday brings the best chance for widespread rain and a genuine, if temporary, cooldown into the low 80s. Heat builds back toward the low 90s by the end of the week. As always in Oklahoma summers, have a way to receive warnings if storms develop nearby.
