A comfortable, drier stretch has settled over southeastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas Saturday after Friday’s extreme heat warning, with highs falling into the upper 80s to low 90s and lower humidity. The relief holds through the weekend before temperatures climb back into the upper 90s and low 100s by the middle of next week.
Extended forecast
Saturday: Mostly clear and noticeably more comfortable, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s regionwide and lows in the upper 60s. Little to no rain expected.
Sunday: Mostly clear with highs in the low 90s and lows in the upper 60s. No measurable rain expected.
Monday: Sunny with highs climbing back into the mid-90s and lows near 68 to 69. No measurable rain expected.
Tuesday: Sunny and warmer, with highs near 97 to 101 and lows in the low-to-mid 70s. A slight chance of an isolated shower, mainly in McAlester and points east.
Wednesday: Hot again, with highs near 101 to 103 and lows in the mid-to-upper 70s. Rain chances increase slightly, up to 20 percent in spots.
Thursday: Highs hold in the low 100s with lows near 78 to 80. Isolated storm chances continue in eastern sections of the region.
Friday: Highs remain in the upper 90s to low 100s with lows near 77 to 80 as the region settles into a typical early-August pattern.
Friday’s high was 101 with a low of 81. No rain was recorded, leaving the monthly total at 2.53 inches, short of July’s average rainfall of 3.10 inches. Average rainfall for August is also 3.10 inches.
Average highs for Aug. 1 are 94 with a low of 65. Records for the date were a high of 110 in 1986 and low of 57 in 1973.
