Jack Cruthrids of Heavener was one of the 2,403 Americans who died during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Dec. 7, 1941. An additional 1,178 people were injured in the surprise attack. Several Heavener residents survived the attack. Their names are on a sign on Highway 59 running through Heavener.
