LeFlore County blast from the past is a daily feature where we highlight the history of the county with an image from the past.
Heavener’s westside school, originally constructed in 1908 with a rock foundation. The school would double in size in 1909-1910 with a concrete foundation on the new section. The school would eventually burn when it was struck by lightning and burned to the ground on Aug. 30, 1918. Following the blaze, classes were temporarily relocated to the Aunt Jenny building and various local churches.
