Dangerous heat builds through the week
Southeastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas are in for a stretch of intense summer heat, with sunny skies and highs climbing from the mid-90s Monday to a scorching 100 degrees by Wednesday and holding there into the weekend. Heat index values are expected to push past 100 — and possibly past 105 by midweek — making this a stretch where residents should take real precautions: stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during peak afternoon hours, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. The only real break in the pattern comes Friday, when a system moving through drops highs into the upper 80s and brings the best rain chance of the week, before heat rebuilds again over the weekend.
