Fishing remains steady at Wister Lake heading into August, according to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. As of late July, the lake’s elevation was normal and stable with a water temperature of 91 degrees and stained conditions. Largemouth bass are fair on plastic baits and worms around brush structure, while channel catfish are good on grasshoppers around flats and crappie are good on jigs and minnows around brush structure, according to the report submitted by James Williams, game warden stationed in LeFlore County.
OU, OSU, Tulsa and Arkansas set 2026 football schedules
Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Arkansas have all released their 2026 football schedules, setting up a season that includes several in-state and regional matchups. Oklahoma opens Sept. 4 at home against UTEP in a Friday night kickoff, while Oklahoma State and Tulsa square off in Tulsa on Sept. 5 to begin their seasons. Arkansas hosts North Alabama the same day. Tulsa and Arkansas also meet later in the schedule, facing off Sept. 26 in Fayetteville.

Unemployment rises in all 77 Oklahoma counties over the year in June
Unemployment rates climbed year-over-year in all 77 Oklahoma counties in June, according to state labor data. Hughes County posted the state’s highest county unemployment rate at 7.1 percent, followed by Love County with the second-highest rate for the month. Dewey County reported the lowest rate in the state at 2.8 percent, according to the latest report from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.
Heat holds through Friday in LeFlore County
A heat advisory is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday for LeFlore County, with heat index values expected to reach up to 109 degrees. Hot, mostly dry conditions continue through Friday before a slightly cooler, drier stretch settles in for the weekend and into next week.
